Purdue Aviation Day 2024: The Greatest Spectacle in Collegiate Aviation Soars to New Heights


WEST LAFAYETTE, IN - Purdue Aviation Day presented by Envoy Air is set to return to the Purdue University Airport on Saturday, April 13, from 9 AM to 4 PM. This annual event draws aviation enthusiasts from across the country and around the world; offering an immersive experience into the world of aviation—all at no charge to attendees. 

  

The highlight of this year's festivities includes an impressive lineup of guest speakers, headlined by Shannetta Griffin, the FAA’s Associate Administrator of Airports, and Erik Amend, the Administrator of the Great Lakes Region. Administrator Griffin, a pivotal figure within the FAA, oversees crucial aspects of airport infrastructure, making her invaluable to attendees wanting to learn more about our nation's airports. Administrator Amend provides corporate leadership and represents the interests of the FAA to industry, public, and government organizations. The FAA’s attendance also comes at an exciting time for Purdue’s own Airport (KLAF), which recently announced a new Terminal project and the resumption of commercial air service on May 15.  

  

Joining these esteemed administrators are various other dignitaries from the aviation industry, including Heather Penney and Laura Savino, who are both Purdue alumni. Additionally, the event will host three different panels that are sure to offer insightful discussions to patrons. Purdue Aviation Day will be proud to facilitate a Women in Aviation Panel, a Young Professionals Panel, and a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Panel during 2024 festivities. 

  

A highlight of the day's proceedings will undoubtedly be the performance by the Air Combat Command A-10 Thunderbolt II Demonstration Team. Known as the "Warthog," the A-10 is celebrated as the Air Force's premier close air support aircraft. Spectators will be treated to a display of precision aerial maneuvers, showcasing the aircraft's formidable capabilities while honoring the dedication of the

men and women of the United States Air Force. 

 

Purdue Aviation Day will also host numerous static aircraft displays, offering an up-close look at commercial, general aviation and military aircraft. Additionally, all attendees are welcome to partake in different flight simulator experiences that will be on offer. 

 

Purdue Aviation Day isn't just about aerial displays; it's also a platform for aspiring aviation professionals to explore career opportunities. The event boasts a comprehensive Career Expo, where students and local community members can engage with industry professionals, allowing them to gain valuable insights into various career paths within aviation. 

 

Additionally, for young aviators, Purdue Aviation Day will offer two youth activity rooms geared toward both kids and teens. 

 

For those looking to refuel during the event, local food trucks will be on hand with various offerings for the entire family.
